American Institute of Architects -Helping Make the World a Better Place

Robert Ivy is the CEO of the American Institute of Architects. The American Institute of Architects has been an advocate for the excellence of architects since its founding in 1857. Today, AIA is headquartered in Washington, DC, with more than 260 chapters around the world. The organization’s primary mission is to assist architects with the resources they need to create their best work. As such, architects become inspired to drive positive change at every level of society through their power to design.

AIA, under the leadership of Robert Ivy, is on a ten-year mission to help develop and design technology solutions that will address resiliency, sustainability, and public health concerns. This fits perfectly into what members of AIA seek. The organization will also work closely with a number of universities and community organizations to reach its goals. AIA will also offer funding when and where applicable.

The organization’s mission places focus in the following areas:

Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity – AIA commits itself to helping eliminate barriers to fair treatment, access, opportunity to participate within the field, and advancement. The organization also commits itself to making sure each member has the tools needed to succeed.

Diversity – Among individuals, there is a quality of difference. Diversity celebrates these differences with respect to age, ethnicity, gender, physical appearance, and other unseen differences that can include how people think, their religion and nationality, education, and sexual orientation.

Inclusion – Robert Ivy remains committed to making sure the AIA sets the standard for a work environment and culture where individuals value the differences of other people. People perform their best when they feel valued, can connect, and are respected by their peers and others.

Climate Change – While some support climate change, and others seem skeptical, AIA supports design initiatives that address the rising levels of carbon dioxide that contribute heavily to extreme weather conditions and the loss of the world’s natural resources. For the 21st century, climate change is the world’s biggest crisis.

The AIA has a lot of work to do. However, the organization has a steady hand at the helm to help them get the job done.
